Paine hawaiana/Pan Hawaino/Hawaiian Bread

Ingredients 1 bread

§  250 grams of wheat flour for strong white bread Flour

§  100 milliliters of water.

§  25 grams of butter

§  1/4 teaspoon salt

§  2 tbsp of sugar

§  1 tsp of vanilla extract.

§  1 beaten eggs to glazear.

§  1/2 sachet of dry yeast

For the filling

§  Ham

§  Pineapple in chunks

§  Slices of cheese

Preparation

1.      Prepare the yeast in 3 tablespoons of warm water and the sugar.

2.      Blend the butter, salt and yeast.

3.      Put the flour into a bowl and add the water, vanilla extract and the yeast mixture.

4.      Mix to a soft dough and knead it on a floured surface for a few minutes, until smooth and elastic.

5.      Put in an oiled bowl, cover with clingfilm and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hour (see note) , or until it has doubled in size.

6.      Re-knead again for a few more minutes and put the dough on a floured surface and flatten with a rolling pin.

7.      Make a rectangle with the mass of approximately 20 cm by 30 cm.

8.      Place the rectangle on a baking tin with oil or oiled paper.

9.      Place a few slices of cheese and then another layer of ham and pineapple and place the last layer of cheese.

10.    Make some cuts to the edges as shown in photo number 5 in the form of wings, so it will be easier to braid. (Make the same number of cuts on each side).

11.    Then apply these wings in beaten egg and cross each other.

12.    Taking the first one on the right and then cross with the left and so on until the end.

13.    The last tip can be bent inward or downward to close the pan completely.

14.    Glaze the bread with beaten egg and let sit for 10 minutes.

15.    Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees of temperature 350 F or Gas mark 5.

16.    Place pan in center of oven and cook for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Note: In winter is difficult to find a warm place for the dough , but one alternative that works for me very well is: Put the bowl into other container with warm  water and let it rise.
